Filming Sam Roberts' Private Performance at CES

Sam Roberts offered Canadian technology journalists a private show at CES in Las Vegas. The performance, which Black Box Productions filmed using two Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Cinema Camera systems, was displayed live in the private hotel suite on multiple Samsung UHD televisions.

The Setup

The event served a dual purpose: showcasing the capabilities of Samsung's Ultra High Definition television technology while giving Canadian media an exclusive, intimate experience with one of Canada's most celebrated rock musicians. With the performance feeding live to the Samsung UHD screens throughout the suite, the production needed to look pristine at 4K resolution — demanding the very best in camera technology and operational precision.

Why Dual 4K Cameras

Running two Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta systems simultaneously allowed us to cover the performance from multiple angles — ensuring we captured every nuance of Sam Roberts' live set without interruption. The Sony F55 was at that time one of the most capable 4K cinema cameras available, producing images that could stand up to the critical eye of technology journalists seeing the footage played back directly on Samsung's flagship UHD displays.

The Result

The combination of a world-class Canadian artist, cutting-edge camera technology, and Samsung's UHD display capabilities created a compelling demonstration of where broadcast and consumer technology were headed. The event was a compelling proof of concept for Ultra HD content production — and a memorable moment for the Canadian journalists in attendance.
